Andor has wrapped up its second season, and although the journey was shorter than Season 1 thanks to a new release schedule, the final outing for Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) still hit just as hard. One of the things that makes the show special is the relationship between Cassian and Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), which drives the series forward at every turn. At the end of Season 2, we see that Cassian and Bix had a child he’ll never get to meet. During a recent profile with Collider’s Carly Lane, Arjona was asked about her final days filming Andor Season 2, and she spoke about how it aligned with the closing moments of the show:
“My last day on set was Episode 12. We shot the end of the whole show the day before I wrapped, and then the last day was me working in the silos and looking up and realizing that there were Imperial ships coming in. It lingered for so long. For weeks, I was like ‘Three weeks until I finish. Oh my god.’ I could not believe that I was going to finish.“
It’s become increasingly common for performers to wrap at varying times on movies and TV shows. Someone with a smaller role might wrap much earlier than the leading star, who’s around until the entire production is finished. Despite the differences in screen time, this wasn’t the case with Arjona and Luna. She also went into detail on how special a moment it was finishing filming her final scene:
“So, when that day came, Tony was on set. Diego and I were both on two different soundstages, so we wrapped the exact same day, the exact same moment. That was special. Who I began the show with, I ended the show with. It was a way bigger attribute for Diego, since he’s literally in every single episode all season, but everyone was crying, and we all hugged. It was beautiful that Tony was there to wrap because sometimes you wrap and your co-star is off doing something else, or they’re off that day, but this time we all wrapped and we wrapped everyone together. The whole show wrapped together. The last day that I shot was the last day of Andor Season 2, so it’s pretty special.”
Now that we know the full history of Bix and Cassian’s relationship, it makes her absence from Rogue One hit that much harder. She left Cassian because she knew her and their child would keep him from accomplishing his ultimate mission: taking down the Empire. He ultimately accomplishes this, but at the cost of his and Jyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) lives.
Andor’s Adria Arjona Didn’t Want To Take Off Her Bix Costume After Wrapping
Collider’s Carly Lane also asked Arjona about how easy (or hard) it was for her to move on after wrapping, and she went into detail on how “heartbreaking” it is to say goodbye to a character, knowing there won’t be any future opportunities to revisit them:
“It lingered prior, and it also lingered afterwards. There were a lot of tears, and I didn’t want to take the costume off. The idea that you’re not going to visit that character again, and it’s a character that has been really important for me, was really heartbreaking. But then it was this excitement that people were finally going to watch it because we wrapped, and post-production was going to go ahead strong.”
Bidding something farewell that has occupied so much space in your life can be “hard to accept,” Arjona admits, but she also revealed when creator Tony Gilroy gave her the news that she had “officially” finished all her work on the show, which came well after she left the set for the final time:
“I was just reminiscing, and I still do. I finished my ADR, and I got the official, official wrap. Tony was like, ‘You’ve got no more work to do on this.’ He’s like, ‘You’re officially wrapped.’ And I was like, ‘No, I refuse to.’ Then, now, we just finished the press, we’re wrapping it up, and he’s like, ‘We’re wrapping up!’ And I’m like, ‘No! I know we’re all going to be reunited somehow.’ So, yeah, it’s been hard to accept that it’s over, but the fact that people are loving it so much and accepting it and appreciating it and talking about it, it’s exciting. It’s the reason why you do it. So, in that way, now, finally, I’m like, ‘Okay, it’s done. Episode 12 is out.’ It finally feels like we’re done.”
Arjona has been acting for the better part of the last 15 years, but Bix Caleen will ultimately live on as one of her most iconic and enduring roles of her career. We’re not ready to say goodbye to Andor forever, either, but fans still have Arjona, Luna, Gilroy, and so many more to thank for delivering what many believe is the best Star Wars project of all time.
